We had a great Tweetup over the weekend that was sponsored by McDonald’s and their Free McCafe Coffee Week. McDonald’s on Ralph David Abernathy Blvd was packed with Atlanta’s most influential bloggers and the topic was entrepreneurship. Below are 5 quick tips from the event on transitioning from a full time employee to a full time entrepreneur.

1. Set a goal:

Make a detailed plan and be specific. Set deadline dates to have things done and other specifics such as estimated amount of readers you want to reach, how much money you want to make, etc. Revisit your goals periodically to asses your progress.

2. Pay down debt:

Live modestly (within means) to help your dreams come true. It’s much easier to be an entrepreneur when you don’t have huge bills and debt hanging over your head.

3.Create multiple streams of income for yourself:

Contracts and ads can come and go so focus on creating products and services that you can deliver directly to your readers. Create multiple streams of income to protect yourself and your blogging business.

4. Take the leap and just do it:

There will never be a right or perfect time. Plan and strategize what it will take, what you can bring in and then work like crazy to make that happen.

5. Invest In Yourself:

Invest in your business with the income you generate before leaving your FT job. Use this opportunity to grow your business and to focus on personal development that will help when you do make the leap.

BONUS TIPS:

Take the time to meet people, network, and build genuine relationships. Conferences, Tweetups and other events are key to building relationships with bloggers and brands that can pay off in the long run.
